Reclaiming My Space In The Blogosphere

This post has been percolating for a while. I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to do this. While I love and embrace the community aspect of blogging, I also feel that personal blogs are our own personal space. We’re entitled to have them be safe places to write about what we want to write about and not write about what we don’t want to.

I’ve been planning to change the name of this blog for a while (since I’m no longer “ISO”). My original plan was to leave the URL the same and just change the name. Now I’m feeling the need for a fresh space. So my plan is to start a new blog with the same blogger id. I’ll link to it from this one, and leave this one intact and accessible from my profile, but not link back to here from the new one.

What do you all think?

And since I’m asking questions of you, Cali has suggested I put up a ticker. Not sure why I’m reluctant. Jinxy, maybe? Thoughts? Favorite tickers?

The new blog will probably go up late Monday or Tuesday, after my NT scan on Monday afternoon.

Also, I will be in Washington, DC from Thursday afternoon, June 4th until Sunday afternoon, June 7th, if any DC bloggers are available for a meetup. I really need a mental health break, and I have a couple of old friend in the area that I will be getting together with. I really shouldn’t be spending the money on this right now, but it’s a pretty inexpensive getaway from NYC, thanks to Bo1tbus (comfy seats with wifi and electrical outlets) and Price1ine. I’ll have time to restore my savings account. I figure I should take advantage of being done with PIO (just 2 more shots, tonight and tomorrow) and not being huge and unwieldy yet.

Hey dear...so glad to see you back again. I get the need for a new space but I am really glad you are leaving this blog up.

I like the idea of a ticker too. How about one of those freaky floating baby things...LOL

I don't believe in jinxes, but one reason I don't like most tickers is that instead of telling you where you are right now, they focus on how many days until delivery. I find that pretty presumptuous, esp. since it's pretty guaranteed that I'll deliver twins early. How early, I have no idea. I've seen blogs where the baby(ies) comes weeks premature, and the ticker saying there's still several weeks left becomes pretty silly.

There's one I like that tells tidbits about each day's development http://www.nurturedfamily.com/pregnancy_tracker.aspx
but when I actually examined the tidbits further, they're much less informative than my books. At least it doesn't count the days left until delivery.

But, as you may have noticed, no ticker of any kind on my blog. I don't consider mine to be a pregnancy blog anyway, but still an IF blog with occasional pregnancy after IF stuff thrown in. If I make a non-anonymous blog for family members to get updates on the babies, I'd put a ticker there.

Look forward to seeing your new digs!

A clean fresh slate to start with will be so nice...wherever you go...I hope I get to link up to that blog too!

Ticker? Well, it really is a very personal thing...you know Dora, here everybody keeps on posting pictures of their bump/ ultrasound pictures etc, but this one blog that I regularly read, has posted her ultrasound pictures after more than half of the pregnancy is over....

Don't take peer pressure on that issue...nor do you need to follow what everybody else seems to be doing. If you are not feeling like it, do not do it!

Good Luck for tomorrow!

Take Care!

Glad you're back and you feel the need for new digs. That seems like an appropriate step.

I'm with Cassandra about the tickers. I like the ones that say what the baby is doing right now, rather then how many days you have left.

I'll follow you when you go. I enjoy reading about whats up with ya.

Great to see you again. I agree that a blog is for your own personal info and you have a right to share what you wish.

I do have a confession to make....the ISO in your blog....I always thought that it was the name of some Greek goddess in search of a golden egg. If that was actually true, then iso would have been a good name for her, I guess. How embarrassing....

So glad to hear your voice. Can't wait to see the new digs.

Tickers... I'm all for them when I'm on my forum but somehow, I couldn't do it on my blog. I have felt that just celebrating each milestone was enough. At first, I wasn't even going to post belly pics because I wasn't sure if it was appropriate given the audience but then people started asking for them and I decided that one, that if that turned people off so be it, and two, there are so many wonderful people cheering me on, that how could I leave them out of the loop on this. I'm just taking it one step at a time and hoping for the best.

As others have said, go with how you feel and what you think you can handle. No more, no less.

Yay for you being back and yay for the newness! As for tickers...I have no opinion. None. Sorry to be so unhelpful, but I will support you whatever you come up with. :)

Yay! Dora's back!

I don't like tickers, either. They are either all cheese and rainbows and kitsch, or weird floating alien babies with a NASA-esque countdown.

That's just my take, not to dis anyone out there who finds them helpful/fun/charming.

I'll follow you to your new digs, Dora! Enjoy the break and good luck today with the scan!

Looking forward to the new place.

I like the babyastrology.com because you can change it to Days to Go, Weeks to Go, Days so Far or Weeks so Far.

Have fun!
